Return and delivery terms on a shop site: what the law requires
What an online shop must show on returns and delivery before purchase: periods under Russian and EU law, who pays, what is excluded. Page example.

- 7 daysto withdraw from a distance purchase in Russia
- 14 daysto withdraw in the EU (Directive 2011/83/EU)
- 3 monthsin Russia if return terms were not given in writing
Why the page is mandatory
An online buyer cannot see the goods and may withdraw. Consumer protection laws require telling them how in advance. A shop without a returns page risks a consumer-rights fine and looks like the classic scam shop.
Periods set by law
- Russia: for distance purchases withdrawal is possible within 7 days of receipt (Art. 26.1 of the Consumer Protection Law).
- Russia: if the seller did not state the return procedure and period in writing the period grows to three months.
- EU: 14 days to withdraw from a distance purchase without giving a reason (Directive 2011/83/EU).
- Kazakhstan and Belarus: the period and terms come from your country’s consumer protection law, so take them from the law’s text.
What to write on the page
The return and delivery terms generator drafts the text in five minutes. Link the page from the footer, the cart and the offer.
- The return period and when it starts.
- The goods’ condition: packaging, appearance, receipt.
- Who pays return shipping and how to start a return.
- The refund period and method.
- Which goods cannot be returned, strictly as the law allows.
- Delivery methods, times and costs.
Frequently asked
Can I write “returns not accepted”?
Not unless the goods fall under the official exceptions list. A term worse for the consumer than the law is void, and a complaint to the regulator costs more.
Who pays to return goods of proper quality?
Usually the buyer, though the seller may take the cost on, which builds trust. For defective goods the seller pays return shipping.
Does a site without sales need the page?
No. Awe Check tests the page only on sites where it found a cart, prices or payment.
