Responsive website test on different screens
Paste an address: we open the home page on seven popular screens, from a 4K TV to the narrowest phone, show the shots and find where the layout breaks.
Short answer: what is a responsive website
A responsive site adapts to the screen width: on a phone it does not scroll sideways, buttons are big enough for a finger (at least 24px under WCAG 2.2) and text is readable without zooming. Over half of all visits now come from phones and Google ranks by the mobile version, so phone layout bugs cost both customers and rankings.
Which screens we test and why
- 4K TV · 3840×2160The largest screen: does the site stretch too wide and does text get lost.
- Large monitor · 2560×1440Popular 27-inch monitors in studios and offices.
- Full HD desktop · 1920×1080The most common desktop resolution in the world.
- Laptop · 1366×768Budget laptops: second most common, little vertical space.
- Tablet · 768×1024iPad and Android tablets in portrait, touch screen.
- Phone · 390×844Modern iPhones and most Android phones by width.
- Small phone · 320×568The narrowest screen still in use: layouts break here first.
Responsive design: frequently asked questions
How do I test a website for responsiveness online?
Paste the address above. The service opens the site in a real browser on seven screens, shows the shots and marks where the page scrolls sideways, buttons are too small or text is hard to read.
Why does my site scroll sideways on a phone?
Usually an image, table or block with a fixed width wider than the screen, a long word or link that does not wrap, or an element with a negative margin. The report shows how many pixels wider than the screen the page is.
How big should buttons be on a phone?
WCAG 2.2 requires at least 24 by 24px; Apple and Google recommend 44 and 48px. Small links close together cause mis-taps and people leave.
Does responsiveness affect Google rankings?
Yes. Google indexes the mobile version of a site, and an awkward phone layout also worsens behaviour signals.
Can I monitor the layout automatically?
Yes, with Awe Check Pro: the site is checked on a schedule, and if a theme or plugin update breaks the layout you get a Telegram or email alert.
